Energy is obtained from ATP by :?
The answer is B. ATP stands for adenotriphosphate, which as its name suggests is a molecule with energy stored in the high energy bonds between three phosphates. The bonds contain so much energy because phosphate is a polyatomic ion with a charge of -3. Because like charges oppose each other, it takes high amounts of energy to stick them together. So, ATP is created when a phosphate is added to an ADP (adenoDIphosphate) with then energy harnessed from the breakdown of glucose. So, to use the energy stored in an ATP molecule, one of those phosphate bonds is broken.
